|
| The Architect of Indian Accounting. Before the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) was established in 1949, the profession in India was in its infancy. J. R. Batliboi was one of the first to provide a structured, academic, and ethical foundation for it. He founded Batliboi & Purohit in 1907. He started it at a time when British firms dominated the landscape, making it one of the oldest and most prestigious Indian-founded firms. For generations of aspiring Indian accountants, his name was synonymous with their education. He authored "Typical Problems in Advanced Accounting" and "Advanced Accounting," which remained the "standard bibles" for CA students for decades. Even today, vintage copies are considered collectors' items for their clarity on fundamental principles. He was a Fellow of the Society of Incorporated Accountants and Auditors (London). His work predated the current CA designation; in those days, practitioners were often "Registered Accountants" (RA) under the Auditor's Certificates Rules. J. R. Batliboi didn't just practice; he shaped the *ethics and standards* of the Indian auditor. He was known for a rigorous, uncompromising approach to auditing—a philosophy that likely still anchors your firm's reputation in Mumbai today.
